No more room for harassment
Our mission:
We are creating a safe, respectful, and empowering environment among real estate professionals by standing up against discrimination and harassment.
Why get involved?
Independent real estate agents face significant risks (harassment, abuse, financial loss) with little recourse or support. Reporting almost never happens. However, this does not mean that harassment never happens. We have learned about several situations where the harm has been severe, with zero support to the survivor, and zero punitive actions taken to stop the perpetrator. You may be aware of similar situations in your own workplace.
Incorrect assumptions about sexual harassment survivors:
“Why don’t they just go the police?”
“They should just report it to their broker or supervisor.”
“This doesn’t affect me, so why should I care?”
“If I just move brokerages, it won’t be a problem anymore.”
These reactions are common, but are short-sighted. The reality:
Survivors are usually NOT comfortable reporting their experiences to the police. Approximately 90% of all sexual harassment cases go unreported in the United States.
Their brokers may be friends with the perpetrator or may BE the perpetrator of the harassment.
The survivor may fear retaliation within their team or brokerage.
Harassment and discrimination brings the entire industry standard down, whether you are directly affected or not. We need an understanding of what to do about it.
The lack of punitive measures and corrective action emboldens abusers to continue their inappropriate behaviors, often at increased severity.
Financial losses are one significant outcome of these abuses. Often, the survivor leaves the company or the industry entirely, his/her effectiveness shuts down, and there could be legal risks for brokerages for their lack of proper action.
Friends and family often are unsure of how to support the survivor, and need resources.
How can we stop this?
Take a stand. We are gathering a strong group of survivors, allies, government leaders, legal professionals, brokerages and other real estate companies who will stand up against discrimination and harassment. Every ally brings strength. We need you. We are creating classes and certifications that will empower companies and allies to help prevent harassment, raise the standard of conduct, and show support for survivors. We seek to combine forces with advocates who can step up. Are you willing to take a stand?
A good friend offering support to the survivor may make all the difference.
Outreach: We are located in Utah, but would love to connect with similar groups around the world. Thank you for your interest in making a difference!
