Hi. We are glad you’re here.
Let’s get started.
Safe Agent Alliance is made up of Utah REALTORS®, some of whom are allies and others are survivors of sexual harassment. We are working to improve policies to protect survivors, penalize and kick out perpetrators, provide friendly and respectful support to allies and survivors, listen to their experiences and ideas, and work in lock-step with all Utah Associations of REALTORS® to bring about positive change. We use our voices to raise awareness and provide education to eliminate sexual harassment from an industry that is supposed to be setting the standard of excellence and ethical behavior.
But if it were happening, it would be reported, right? Wrong.
“Most victims — 87% of women and 89% of men — did not disclose their experiences to anyone, highlighting the need for improved support and accountability systems”…”While attitudes and policies have improved since the start of the #MeToo movement, our latest data shows that sexual harassment and assault remain a pervasive problem across our society with clear social and health impacts on victims,” (Anita Raj, PhD, MS, Executive Director, Newcomb Institute of Tulane University)
Our industry lacks clear and appropriate policy regarding sexual harassment. It continues without real consequences to the perpetrator. Every broker seems to handle it a bit differently. The perpetrator may be let go, but they find another brokerage to call home and continue their bad behavior. We were told by on victim advocate that “they ALWAYS find a new victim.”
Who really suffers? The survivors bear the burdens: humiliation, fear, embarrassment, trauma responses, nightmares, mental & emotional damage, confidence loss, loneliness, shame, and every possible negative result you could imagine. We want to help lighten that load—to provide a nonjudgmental place of support, resources, and education for survivors. As well as support and tips for their close support circles and assistance for brokerages. The end goal is to eradicate harassment completely from Utah’s real estate industry.
We want to tell those who have suffered in silence: you are not the only one. Please reach out to us.
The good news:
We are putting out the call to those who would like to help prevent harassment and abuse from happening, as well as those who want to be a support for those who are feeling hurt or alone due to this problem. You are all needed here.
Safe Agent Alliance is in contact with all victims’ advocates throughout the state, at every police department. They are a willing and able resource for survivors who are unsure of what to do when they are harmed by sexual harassment or assault. We are huge supporters of the police, and would be happy to connect you to any department you need.
We are working with state legislators to write into law the changes needed to provide safe working environments for all agents in Utah.
